About Owisokon Lahache
I am a practicing Iroquois artist (Mohawk, Turtle Clan) and have exhibited in the national and international art scene since 1987 with my work sold all over the world. My work has recieved many awards: "Best in Show", "People's Choice Awards" and I have been fortunate to exhibit with some really great artists such as Jean Paul Riopelle and exciting places such as Harvard University's Peabody Museum. My first passion is painting. I use my talent to create not only paintings but I love to experiment with many other artistic media such as sculpture, bas relief, ceramics, drawing, stained glass and fashion design. I believe that in order for me to grow as an artist I need to continously create exploring media with an aim to develop my skills and to broaden my repertoire. My artwork reflects spiritual aspects of Iroquois culture and imagery of our unique material culture. I create reproductions of items our people have used throughout history and still use today such as carved and painted cradle boards, traditional clothing and contemporary clothing.
I hope you enjoy perusing my website and exploring the Iroquois culture.
